I put hosting in the title, but really other people do that. I don't have a server farm in my basement. What I do is to manage services and servers that are in real server farms, like Amazon's Web Services platform. I keep the software up-to-date, make sure the backups are run properly, that the server has enough capacity for the load its under. That's the value I bring to the table.

Overview

Hosting seems to have become stagnated over the last few years. A hosting company brings up a rack of servers in a data center, gets a linux build with some sort of control panel on it and starts renting out space. This was probably a good thing a decade ago, but the state of IT infrastructure has progressed far beyond this. I've kept up with these changes and can make them work for you.

Default out-of-the-box web server configurations generally aren't the best for Joomla or other types of dynamic websites. I've learned server configurations over the years that make a real difference in site performance. One of the standard tests of website performance is Yahoo's YSlow suite of tests. Currently this site scores a 93 out of 100 on that measure of speed. The Joomla.org site itself only scores a 74 on the same scale. Faster responding websites make for happier users.

Everybody needs a website. I specialize in implementing websites in the open source content management system (CMS) called Joomla. It's one of the "big three" open CMSs: Wordpress, Joomla and Drupal. I was a founding partner in one of the larger Joomla design shops in the state until we parted ways.
